New Website Design

The inertia of events forced me to go live with my new CliffCheney.com website design a little before I felt ready. When does anyone really feel 'ready' to put something out for public examination anyway. :)

The purpose of the new design is to allow me to upload photo-stories and other content more often. The old site was too static. Any upgrades or additions will be posted in this blog.

My latest story is a slideshow from the Barrack Obama Campaign Rally in Austin.

Thanks for checking out my new site.

'Camp Casey II' Photo Story

I just added a slideshow about the protests on November 23, 2005 where twelve protestors were arrested for camping on county roads in violation of a new county ordinance prohibiting camping on public roads near President Bush's Ranch.

Header Rotation

I have setup the header photo on this blog to cycle randomly. So, come back often to see more nifty horizontal photographs. :)

LightStalkers Portfolio

I posted an abbreviated portfolio in my LightStalkers Profile. It made me think I should tighten up my regular portfolio as well. Wedding site first. Obsessive tweaking later.

Frontpage

I changed the landing page at the front of the main website to a flash image rotator that allows you to click-thru to the content which contains the image showing when you click.

Grad School

I just received my acceptance letter from The Univeristy of Texas at Austin for graduate studies. I will be in Advanced Studies in Photojournalism. Wish me luck!

Update: I was also awarded a Teaching Assistanceship that will pay 90% tuition, a biweekly stipend and health insurance. Amazing! This will really help me concentrate more on my studies and less on finances.

Mars Panorama

Nasa has stitched a pano of the area around the Spirit Rover while it waited out the winter on Mars. Very cool!

Damn! I love those little robots and their 1024x1024 B&W cameras.

Back

The last few months have marked the start of a two year graduate program for me. I have been extremely busy with my teaching assistantship in the photo lab, my studies and sporadic freelance work. Only recently have I felt on top of my schedule.

So, I think I am ready to get back into blogging. I plan on reworking this blog to serve several functions. It will be a:

1. Journal Concerning Major School and Peronal News
2. Photo News Commentary
3. Photoblog
4. Podcast (maybe)
5. Video Podcast (maybe)
6. Multimedia Podcast

As I have enjoyed blogging in the past, I think will be able to find the motivation to keep this blog going. Many of the above mentioned features are in areas I am required to master for graduation. So I might as well practice.

Google Was Wrong

The mobile Google Maps application I installed on my RAZR V3xx gave me some completely wrong directions to the Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans this weekend. What made it worse was the fact that I was directing a group of photographers that I wasn't with to the stadium. Below is a photo of the address the app gave me on St Charles.

The actual stadium is many miles north in City Park. The Google website gives the correct location:

Doe Google have an email for map corrections?

My first semester is coming to an end. I have done some good work. Some work where I wish I had tried harder. In the end I got to look at some cool books. :)
